On Monday 4th April sevenyear- old Adam Bird and his mother Alison visited Knights Garden Centre in Woldingham to receive a cheque for £2,200 raised by customers and staff over the last year. Adam has Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggresive form of cancer which has threatened his life since the age of five. Doctors in the UK have treated Adam over the last two years to try and save or extend his young life. So far Adam's particular form of cancer has proved resistant to all forms of treatment. Adam's parents undertook to raise the amount required to take him to America or Germany to undergo vital treatment that is not available in the UK. The long, hard road has culminated in funds totalling £460,000 being raised to support Adam's bid for treatment. Mr Knight said: "What a delightful family and a super young man who is an inspiration to us all. We are pleased to be able to offer such support to Adam and his family at this difficult time. We wish Adam and his family all the very best as they return to hospital to find out how Adam's battle against this cruel disease is going. I would also like to thank Pam Miriam our fund raiser, staff and customers, without whom this super total would not have been possible." |
