Watercolour and drawing classes for adults have arrived in Woldingham. Last September Tracey Bengeyfield started 'Welcome to the Drawing Room' with the aim of bringing fun and accessible drawing classes to the local community. After gaining her degree in Graphics and Media at the London College of Printing, Tracey went on to work in a graphic design agency for two years before moving into teaching secondary and sixth form students. Last year, after nearly 14 years, she decided to go it alone and fulfil a lifelong ambition of running her own business. Tracey said: "I had the idea of trying to make the classes more informal than those offered in adult education centres as I hoped this would put my students at ease. I really wanted to offer a unique experience not just a lesson, so complimentary tea, coffee and cake are served in fine china teacups, with silver cake stand, sugar tongs and doilies. It's my small homage to the days of the Edwardian drawing room! "I believe that with support you can really improve, even if you find drawing and painting a challenge. All you need is to approach it with a joy and enthusiasm." January saw the group move to Woldingham Village Club where the elegant yet cosy surroundings have added to the welcoming ambiance. Classes are on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10am until noon. Bookings are for a minimum of a half term (usually six weeks) or a full term (12 weeks). The next available start dates are the 27th or 28th February and new members need to book in advance. Classes are also available to purchase as gifts and are perfect for birthdays, anniversaries or even Valentine's.
