Last February saw the launch of an exciting new local business that delivers Caribbean food directly to your door.

The founders of 'Baxfood Caribbean', Mark and Joy, run the business from their Whyteleafe home, which means the food is genuinely home-cooked. They also offer an amazing catering service for customers who would like to warm up their dinner parties or celebrations with a Caribbean theme.

Joy said: "We want to offer local people another choice when it comes to ordering a meal delivered to your door. We keep the food as simple and natural as we can, making it a healthy fast food option."

My daughter Jenny and I tried some Baxfood Caribbean meals recently and we were both impressed with how beautifully cooked and tasty the food was. It was wonderful to open up the boxes and smell the delicious Caribbean herbs and spices. The portions were very generous too.

I had the Whole Steamed Sea Bass stuffed with Okra and Pak Choi while Jenny had a selection of BBQ, Jerk and Fried Chicken pieces with a selection of sauces. Our meals came with rice and peas and fresh vegetables that were cooked to perfection. My Sea Bass stuffed with Okra and Pak Choi was a completely new experience for me and it was beautiful. Jenny said the chicken was lovely and tender, and the Jerk Chicken had a spicey kick!

Joy said: "We never use artificial flavours, saturated fats or industrial seasoning in our meals. Instead Mark blends herbs and spices commonly used in the Caribbean such as pimentos, scotch bonnet peppers, chillies and scallions.

The meat is then wet marinated in the herbs and spices overnight so that the flavours soak into the meat. You then experience flavours that are spicy, sweet and hot!"

Baxfood also offers delicious Jamaican Curry Mutton, soups, salads and homemade banana and orange cakes. All the meals are very reasonably priced.
