Review by Julia Church After years in the planning and having overcome numerous obstacles, The Comodor Mediterranean restaurant finally opened for business last month. The restaurant in Croydon Road, Caterham is owned by Majid, the owner of nearby Cafe Bambino and his business partner Adel and thanks to the support of Majid's customers at Cafe Bambino, it has got off to a flying start. When I visited the restaurant with my partner Keith we could see why. The restaurant has all the ingredients for a great evening out. Simply but tastefully decorated, The Comodor is thoroughly unpretentious whilst at the same time serving excellent, freshly prepared food at very reasonable prices. The menu predominantly offers a selection of pizza and pasta dishes, all under ¡ê7, with the pizza bases prepared in-house each day. The starters include a range of tapas dishes ranging in price from ¡ê1.95-¡ê3.50, which can be upgraded to main courses for an extra ¡ê2. I chose the Avocado with Prawns for starter and Keith had Chorizo. Keith said: "If you like Chorizo then you will love this starter!" You can also select any of the main pasta dishes for a starter at ¡ê2 less than the main course price. For my main course I chose one of the Specials of the Day, Chicken Parmijano (¡ê10.50) which was chicken with melted Parmesan and Mozarella cheese on top with a tomato sauce, that comes with a choice of vegetables or pasta. Superb! Keith chose a pasta dish, the Penne Siciliana (with aubergines) which he described simply as: "Beautiful - that is the first word that comes into my head!" Other main courses to choose from are Risotto Comodor, Paella and Lasagne. Diners at The Comodor For steak lovers, one of the Specials of the Day was Sirloin Steak at ¡ê11.50. To end the meal there is a choice of wonderful home-made desserts and I would recommend the creamy Pancotta! The wines and beers come from all over Europe and our friendly waiter, Manuel, recommended the Rioja, ¡ê13.95, which went very well with our meal. The Comodor serves Sunday Lunch for ¡ê5.95 and weekday lunchtimes you can have any pizza, pasta or burger with a beer, wine or soft drink for just ¡ê6.95. Enjoy! |
