The warm and welcoming ambience of The Curry Leaf in Old Coulsdon is one of the first things that strikes you on entering this friendly local restaurant. The mellow lighting and gentle music creates a restful atmosphere, just right for those wanting to enjoy a quiet meal for two. I should mention that parking is a breeze, with plenty of parking bays outside the restaurant in Coulsdon Road. On a cold winter's evening it is definitely an advantage to be able to step out of your car and walk a few yards straight into the restaurant! We were soon sitting comfortably, enjoying our aperitifs and poppadoms while browsing the menu. My partner Keith decided to try the 'Anarashi Hash' (duck), one of the chef's special sizzling dishes from the clay oven. I chose the 'Chicken Pasanda', marinated chicken with ground almond, sultanas, pistachios, cream, aromatic spices and herbs. We also ordered a portion of Sag Aloo (spinach and potatoes), a Mixed Vegetable Curry and a Pilau rice to go with our main courses. I also ordered a Naan Bread to mop up the lovely creamy sauce of the Chicken Pasanda! Keith was very impressed with the duck, which came with pieces of pineapple which he said was: "Surprising, but a lovely combination." I tried some and had to agree! The side dishes we ordered went very well with our main dishes, and we felt very full by the end of the meal. The whole experience, with the delicious food, great service and a bottle of Australian Shiraz was a wonderful way to end a busy Saturday. The Curry Leaf has a Ban-quet Night every Wednesday, serving a four course meal for £10.95 per person for a limited period. They also serve a Sunday Lunch Buffet when you can eat as much as you like for £7.95 (£4.95 for children and under fives eat free). The Curry Leaf is offering a great deal for Christmas parties, with a 10% discount for bookings of ten or more throughout December. Be sure to book early to avoid disappointment! |
