On 13th-15th July the Year Six students at St. John's Primary School in Caterham enchanted their families and friends with performances of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. The play was adapted from the original Shakespeare play by the company 'Shakespeare 4 Kids' to add humour and make the story enjoyable for all ages. The story takes place one summer's night in Athens and the surrounding woods and tells the tale of the wedding of Duke Theseus and Queen Hippolyta and the events surrounding it. The show contained many lively songs and dances, performed by the fairies and woodland people. All the children wore brightly coloured Athenian costumes to add to the play's Shakespearean feel. The main characters included 'Titania', played by Georgia Bean and Hannah Killick; 'Oberon', played by James Hurcomb and Luke Houlahan and 'Bottom', played by Annie Brooks and Luke Andrews. The play was directed by the Year Six team, with other members of staff making the costumes and set. |
