On Tuesday 5th July a breathtaking balloon release took place at de Stafford School in Caterham to celebrate their recent Ofsted success. The spectacle was witnessed by the entire school and invited guests as well as local Year 6 pupils who were at the school for their induction day. Newly appointed Head Boy, 15 year-old Jack Usherwood, started the proceedings with an introduction to the Head Teacher, Caroline Longhurst. Ms Longhurst congratulated the students and said that the balloons would help to symbolically and physically spread the news far and wide. She quoted from Ofsted that the school is a 'well ordered, calm and safe community for students who enjoy their learning and are making good progress' and that the students are 'welcoming, polite and courteous'. Ms Longhurst ended with a quote from an anonymous student saying: "This school is limitless. It enables you to develop your talents no matter what they are." Cards were attached to the balloons with quotes from the Ofsted report. The card that travels the furthest will receive a prize once posted back to the school. The first card has already been returned, less than 24 hours after the event from Canning Town in East London. |
