Mail delivered to Oasis Academy Coulsdon last week really did live up to its Royal name with special letters arriving for Year 7 students from Her Majesty the Queen and HRH The Duchess of Cambridge!

Teacher John Cook explained: "As part of our World Book Day project, the students decided to write to famous people to find out their favourite book."

12 year old Lena Neal from Coulsdon decided to go straight to the top and wrote to The Queen whilst classmate Elle Gurney from New Addington wrote to HRH The Duchess of Cambridge. The girls were thrilled to each receive embossed letters from Buckingham Palace in reply.

"In my letter I told the Duchess that I thought Snow White might be her favourite book, but she wrote back and said it was 'Ann of Green Gables' although she did like Snow White too," said Elle.

Lena added: "The Queen didn't tell us what her favourite book is but we think she might like older books and books for primary-aged children so that she can keep in touch with things."

11 year old Barbara Silva from Purley wrote to Prime Minister, David Cameron and in his reply he told her that his favourite book is 'Our Island Story' by Henrietta Elizabeth Marshall. The best-selling book relates the history of Britain from Roman times to Queen Victoria.

Jack Curtis, 11 from Croydon, decided to write to the nation's favourite Chef, Jamie Oliver, who wrote to thank him for his letter but kept his favourite book to himself. "I think he reads his own recipe books", said Jack.

Other members of the class are still waiting for replies from celebrities they wrote to which included: Peter Andre, Katie Price, Sir Alex Ferguson, Harry Hill, Jacqueline Wilson, Russell Howard and Professor Brian Cox.

"The students were so excited to receive their letters and it's amazing that such important and busy people have taken the time to reply; we do hope we get more. We are going to create a World Book Wall of Fame and display all the letters in the Academy," said teacher, John Cook.
