Pupils at Hillcroft Primary School, Caterham, spent a day celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday and all things British. The children all wore red, white and blue or something traditionally British and started the day with a whole school assembly. Lessons had a Royal or British theme, with some pupils learning about the life of the Queen, while some of the younger children made crowns during their art lesson. The whole school the school, which is part of the GLF Schools chain, joined together on the field for a traditional afternoon tea and enjoyed cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, scones and jam and jam tarts, donated by the Co-Op. This was followed by an afternoon of games on the field and a competition to design a birthday card for the Queen. The winning designs will be made into a card to send to the Monarch. Headteacher Stephanie Scutter said: “It was a wonderful day where we celebrated the life of the Queen and our British culture. The children really enjoyed themselves and the afternoon tea was a lovely treat enjoyed by all.” |
