This month we feature Peter McNeil, an ex Irish Guard who trained at Caterham Barracks in 1948. Peter is the welfare officer at the Caterham branch of the Royal British Legion and has also been the standard bearer at the Caterham-on-the-Hill Remembrance Sunday parade for over 20 years. Birthplace: Manchester. Marital Status: Widower. (I have been with my partner Barbara for 15 years). Children: Six children plus 46 grand and great-grand children. Cars: A40 Somerset and BMW Chevrolet. Pets: Cats in the past. Likes: Honest, up-front people. Dislikes: Male fashionista. Childhood hero: My mother. (She got us through the War). Favourite TV show: 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Dad's Army'. Favourite books: All 'Wilt' books by Tom Sharpe.
Pastimes: My allotment, reading and football. Who would you most like to throw a custard pie at? Boris Johnson. Favourite Food & Drink: Liver and Bacon and a nice cup of tea. Favourite song of all time: Night and Day by Cole Porter. Favourite holiday destination: Cornwall. Biggest influence on your life: Being a London docker for 25 years. Proudest moment: Being elected to and chairing the Caterham-on-the- Hill Parish Council. Most embarrassing moment: There are too many to mention! Where would you most like to live? Cornwall.
