Award winning local theatrical group, Kenley Holiday Workshop ('KHW') are presenting Half a Sixpence at the Barn Theatre Oxted from 13th – 16th August. The Barn Theatre is resonating with a “Flash, Bang, Wallop!” as the talented group recreates the elegance of the Edwardian era with beautiful period costumes and the songs made famous by the Tommy Steele film. The company are led by a talented professional production team and are accompanied by a live band of seven professional musicians. The high standards achieved have led to the group winning a NODA London “Young Stars” award. The company was founded in 1989 by Sally Dallosso, the Company Manager, and Andrea Atkinson who has choreographed every show since 1989. Sarah Morrison will direct her second KHW show and Michael Burbidge will be Musical Director. For the summer show KHW meets at the beginning of August for a week of intensive rehearsals in Caterham before moving to the Barn Theatre in Oxted for the second week of final rehearsals and performances from the Wednesday to Saturday. In Edwardian England, Arthur Kipps is an orphan apprenticed in a draper’s shop. A square peg in a round hole, he unexpectedly inherits a fortune and climbs the social ladder, though learns that money does not always bring happiness when his inheritance is lost. Along the way he loses and regains his childhood sweetheart – twice! KHW present the new version of this show which is even faster and funnier than the original and has new songs to accompany the old favourites of “Half a Sixpence”, “Flash, Bang, Wallop!” and “If The Rain’s Got To Fall”. Tickets are available from www.barntheatreoxted.co.uk or the Box Office 01883 331400. |
