Has making a will been on your to-do list for a while? During St Catherine's Hospice Make A Will Fortnight, you can tick your will off the list, and support your local hospice at the same time. From 8th to 19th May 2017, 17 solicitors across Sussex and Surrey, including Dollman and Pritchard and Quanticks in Caterham have set aside a limited number of appointments to help you make or update your will in exchange for a donation to St Catherine's. Suggested donations are £100 for a single will and £150 for joint wills, but please consider the value of the professional advice and time given by a solicitor when making your donation. Chris and Neil Mackenzie both chose to leave St Catherine's a gift in their will as a thank you for the care the hospice gave their son, Ian. They said: "We made our wills during a previous Make a Will Fortnight, and were able to include gifts to family and friends, and to St Catherine's. It was much easier than we thought and we don't know why we didn't do it sooner. By including gifts to the hospice in our wills, it's our one final opportunity to do some good, and help local people. We positively encourage others to do the same." Having a will is the only way to make sure that when you die, those you care about will benefit in the way you’d like as Diane Lane, Solicitor in the Wills and Probate Department at Goodhand & Forsyth explains: "A will clearly expresses your wishes about your estate making it easier for your loved ones once you pass away. With St Catherine's Make A Will Fortnight, you can support an excellent cause while protecting your family and assets too." If you take advantage of St Catherine's scheme to make sure your own family and friends will be looked after, you might also like to consider leaving a gift to the hospice. Legacies left to St Catherine's make a huge difference to local terminally ill people at one of the hardest times of their lives. The care the hospice provides to one in four people is funded by gifts in wills. For those people, you could leave no greater gift.
