Sally Marks, Surrey County Councillor for Caterham Valley and Vice-Chairman of Surrey County Council is Home-Start East Surrey's new patron. She has been a strong supporter of the charity organisation for many years. She will be promoting Home-Start East Surrey's causes by attending the local scheme's 20th year anniversary celebration to be held on 25th April at Bletchingley Golf Club. The event will also be attended by Councillor Beverley Connolly as well as the charity's friends and supporters to raise funds for the scheme and the families they support.

Home-Start East Surrey is a member of Home-Start UK. The charity organisation helps families who have at least one child under five years old, and who are undergoing hardships like domestic violence, child abuse, multiple births among many issues. Trained volunteers visit each family on a regular basis to provide friendship, advice and assistance. They also organise outings for the families to enable them to have a respite from the problems they encounter in their daily lives.

Home-Start also supports One Step at a Time to help children with disabilities and special needs in the Surrey area.The charity is locally based and is serving the communities of Redhill, Reigate, Horley, Tandridge and the surrounding areas. Due to increasing demands for the charity to provide more help, an expansion into the Mole Valley has recently been included. More volunteers are needed to help families in the area.

The charity is funded by local councils and trusts however, more assistance is needed to cover the shortfall in the constantly decreasing financial grants they receive.

Everyone is warmly invited to the fundraising evening on 25th April at Bletchingley Golf Club on Church Lane at 7.30 pm. The event will feature live band Reservoir Frogs as well a live auction and raffle with exciting prizes.
