Gavin Barwell, Conservative MP for Central Croydon, visited the Lower Sixth AS Politics students at Coulsdon Sixth Form College on Friday May 30 to help them prepare for their Unit 2 exam on aspects of Parliament and the role of the Prime Minister. Gavin led the morning session of this additional revision day for the AS Politics students by giving the students some key facts about the role of Parliament and the Prime Minister and Cabinet. Gavin then used his expert insight to advise the students on the key points that they should include in answering a range of past exam essay questions. The morning was then concluded with the students asking Gavin a range of questions about how he became involved in politics, what he thought about the UK having a coalition government and detailed questions on the workings of Parliament and the limitations on the powers of the Prime Minister. Ivan Tomb, Head of Humanities at the College summarised the visit; “This was a very useful visit from Gavin as he covered absolutely key issues and brought the students up-to-date with the reforms of Parliament. Indeed, much of what Gavin covered during his visit was directly relevant to the exam questions that actually came up and so his input was extremely valuable and much appreciated by the students.” |
