The previous chairman, Councillor Beverley Connolly, presented her with the ceremonial chain of office when she was elected at the Annual Council meeting on Thursday, 12th June. Tandridge District Council’s Chairman for 2014-2015 is Councillor Elizabeth Parker. The Vice-Chairman of the Council, also elected at the meeting, is Councillor Rose Thorn, who represents the Godstone Ward. Councillor Parker has lived in the district for 48 years and has represented the Oxted South Ward since 2004. For the past year she has been the Council’s Vice-Chairman and has served on various committees. During her year in office, the Chairman intends to promote the role of local government throughout the district. This will include raising awareness of the Council among Tandridge schools and the wider community. She is also keen to continue Councillor Connolly’s work to encourage volunteering. Her chosen charity is Papworth Hospital Charity, which is dedicated to providing specialised heart, lung, kidney and liver transplantations, research and continuing care to people throughout the UK. Councillor Parker has seen firsthand how the work undertaken at the hospital has transformed so many people’s lives and provided tremendous support to their families, friends and carers. She will also be supporting Mighty Oaks Youth Club, in Hurst Green, catering for youngsters aged from 10-13 years. The Chairman will be supported by her husband Robin, who will be her Consort.
