Crowds descended upon Westway Common last Saturday, 14th June for one of the highlights of summer - the fabulous Caterham Carnival. Huge clouds loomed for most of the afternoon but only managed one short, feeble shower, nowhere near heavy enough to spoil the proceedings. The Common was packed with stalls of all description and a line-up of well rehearsed routines by local gymnasts, dancers, skateboarders and even pole dancers entertained the crowd throughout the afternoon. Chairman of the Caterham Carnival Committee, Martin Vaux was Master of Ceremonies for the day while Committee members and volunteers from Team Caterham worked from dawn until dusk to ensure the event was a safe and happy day for everyone. The official opening was performed by newly-elected Tandridge District Council Chairman, Cllr. Elizabeth Parker. See the July edition of The Caterham and District Independent for more photos of the Carnival and other events taking place throughout the Caterham Festival this month. |
