The Whyteleafe Flood Appeal, launched to help those affected by the floods in February, has raised a staggering £17,000 and distributed financial assistance to 49 households. The appeal saw the community pulling together with donations coming in from many individuals, businesses, Surrey County Council, local Rotary Clubs, local Lions Clubs and local Churches. Distribution of the funds has now ended. Rev Tim Goode of St Luke’s Church, Whyteleafe, was involved with organising the appeal. He said; “The floods had a devastating impact on people’s homes and lives in Whyteleafe. The one redeeming feature is that the entire community pulled together and generously provided financial assistance to 49 households that really needed it. “We originally aimed to raise £10,000 so reaching £17,000 was just fantastic. On behalf of the Whyteleafe Flood Appeal Committee, I’d like to thank everyone who got involved, be they a donor or helping out in some other way.” The Whyteleafe Flood Appeal was a community effort involving local councillors, businesses and churches. It started collecting funds in February and households were able to apply for assistance prior to 1 May. All applications were considered after that date, with the funds distributed over the following weeks. All funds were distributed by hand to successful applicants. |
