On Tuesday 15 July at 2pm, the Chairman of the Council, Councillor Liz Parker, will officially open the outdoor gym in Queen's Park in Caterham-on-the-Hill. Six pieces of gym equipment have been installed in Queen's Park designed to be used by people of all ages, shapes and sizes, regardless of fitness levels. The open air gym is free and accessible to all adults. Each piece of equipment is clearly labelled with instructions about how to use it safely. The gym is next to the children’s playground, which should enable adults to exercise safely, while keeping an eye on their children or grandchildren at the same time. Fitness instructors from Tandridge Trust have set up a programme of inductions and classes for anyone who would like to know how to use the equipment, or who need help to get started. There will be a variety of sessions led by qualified instructors throughout the summer. Exercise sessions and inductions will be running on the following dates: Thursday 17 July 6pm Sunday 20 July 11am Tuesday 22 July 2pm Thursday 24 July 6pm Sunday 27 July 11am Tuesday 29 July 2pm Thursday 31 July 6pm Sunday 3 August 11am Tuesday 5 August 2pm Thursday 7 August 2pm Sunday 10 August 11am For any questions about the sessions, please contact Chris Cole, Sports Centre and Fitness Manager, at Tandridge Trust on 01883 344355. This project is just one of a number of projects being developed using funding given to Tandridge District Council from Surrey County Council, to support and develop projects and services which enhance the well being of adults and older people as well as to promote their independence. There are plans for further outdoor gyms to be installed in other parts of Tandridge. Councillor Simon Ainsworth, Chairman of the Housing Committee, said: “This is a great initiative and I am sure it will encourage more local residents to exercise outside for free.” |
