On Saturday 28th June, Chaldon residents stepped back in time one hundred years when they entered Chaldon Village Hall to watch ‘Forward March’ by Jacqueline Castrey. Jacqueline, who also directed the show, wrote Forward March to mark the passing of 100 years since the beginning of World War One. The show featured performers from the Chaldon Amateur Dramatic Society, Chaldon Arts, Drama and Dance Youth School and Chaldon Youth Choir as well as Jacqueline’s two singing daughters, Madeline and Matilda, known as the ‘Charisma’ girls. The performance followed the lives of a small rural community during WWI. The characters were inspired by the stories of real families whose sons went off to fight in the Great War. Well known songs from the era, including ‘Hang Out The Washing’ and ‘Pack Up Your Troubles’, were performed by the chorus, receiving rapturous applause from the audience. One of the many highlights of the show was the moving rendition of the song ‘Bring Him Home’ by Madeline and Matilda Castrey at the end of the show. Afterwards, Jacqueline thanked everyone for all their hard work putting the show together in a very short space of time. The proceeds from the raffle will be donated to ‘STUBS‘ (Support Our Armed Services) military charity. |
