Students at Caterham School were celebrating their A Level results on Thursday 14th August. The top grade results were all better than last year, which was against the predicted trend that A Level grades across England would be lower this year.
A* 26% (vs 23%) A* - A 65% (vs 63%) A* - B 89% (vs 88%) A* - C 97% (equal)
76% of the students achieved at least 3 A*-B grades.
Headmaster Julian Thomas said: “I am delighted – but not surprised – that this wonderful year group has done exceptionally well. Their results are even better than last year’s leavers. At a national level, this year’s A-level grades are expected to be lower than usual, so it is all the more impressive that Caterham’s 2014 leavers have bucked the national trend by improving on last year’s results.
“These grades reflect the students’ terrific commitment inside the classroom – but also their dynamism outside it. Whether on the playing fields, in the theatre, in the debating room or on outward bound exercises, they have taken to their tasks with cheerfulness and enthusiasm. It has been a genuine pleasure to work with such a talented group: they have been an inspiration to me and to others. I shall always remember their genuine passion for learning, which raw results cannot possibly show.
“This is a very special year group to me as we began our time at Caterham School together; so it gives me enormous pleasure to see their achievements. I shall miss them but wish them the best of luck for what I am sure will be happy and successful futures.
“I am also greatly impressed by our Lower Sixth students’ AS results, which are outstanding. They have even improved on the AS results of our 2011 leavers, whose eventual A-level results placed Caterham as the UK’s top 11-18 years independent co-educational school. So, this year’s AS results augur well for our A-level results this time next year.”
Mr Thomas added: ‘We are also delighted to see the results for The London Academy of Excellence (LAE) which has achieved outstanding results this year for its first cohort. Caterham School is one of the eight leading independent schools that established and continues to support the LAE’ ( http://excellencelondon.ac.uk/ )
