Whyteleafe FC has been promoting local charity the Orpheus Centre on their shirts this season. Orpheus is an independent specialist college in Godstone that increases the confidence and skills of young disabled adults through the performing arts. In December, Orpheus students and staff went along to support Whyteleafe at their home game against Deal Town FC. They had a great day watching their team thrash the opposition 3-1, and spreading awareness about the centre, which has around 50 students learning practical skills such as budgeting and computer literacy alongside song-writing and performing. £400 was raised on the day from sales of programmes, a golden goal competition and a raffle to win Crystal Palace FC Director’s box tickets. All the money raised will go towards enabling more young disabled adults to live and learn independently. Mark Coote, Whyteleafe chairman, said “I'm delighted that Orpheus has allowed us to support them and it was an absolute pleasure to see a number of students at our match against Deal Town. I feel privileged to feel part of Orpheus and Whyteleafe FC this season has decided not to promote the sponsors of the club but instead have proudly displayed the Orpheus logo on the home shirts, website and matchday programmes. Having had the pleasure of attending an open day at the centre I realised just what a fantastic job they do and how much it benefits the students. The Club will continue to promote Orpheus and look forward to seeing more students in the future” |
