The start of the cricket season has been a promising one for Caterham CC, even though the start of summer has been rather less certain. The 1st XI has won two of their three games, with a winning draw in their other fixture. Highlights have been the first century of the year for Charlie Sheen (117) and an outstanding bowling performance of 7-37 against Haslemere CC by Paul Eversfield. As we write Caterham are preparing for the second round of the Cup competition in which they play local rivals Merstham CC on Spring Bank Holiday Monday at their Quality Street ground in the heart of Merstham. The 2nd XI have had a quieter start to the season, with a rain affected first weekend and a chastening defeat in quick time in the second week.
The 3rd XI are unbeaten and looking much stronger than they have been over the last few years. They thrashed a Croydon MOs side in the first week of the season as Corporal Jack Sheen bowled brilliantly to grab 7-18, and in the second week they also soundly beat Chobham CC as Dan Pollard and Nick House both scored unbeaten 50s in a resounding nine wicket victory. The junior section continues to dominate the East Surrey Colts League, and our emerging squads in both girls' and women's cricket are establishing a strong reputation across East Surrey.
It is early in the season to talk about league positions in August but if the first month of is anything to go by this promises to be another exciting and successful season at Caterham.
Caterham CC run junior and senior cricket for girls, boys, women and men and are always keen to have new members as well as volunteers for umpiring, scoring, junior coaching and a range of administrative tasks.
