One of the end of season rituals for most sports clubs is the awards evening, and at Whyteleafe it is no different. The awards presentation took place in the Whyteleafe FC clubhouse after the final game of the season, and was coupled with a party featuring a BBQ and karaoke, which was well attended by both supporters, some still attired in the fancy dress that they had worn to the Horsham game, and also by the players of both the first and reserve teams.
The awards night is always a lively affair, offering as it does the chance to let the hair down after a gruelling season, and this one proved no exception. The reserve team awards were presented by their ever demure manager, Roger Hoyte, and had extra poignancy this year as the club has taken the decision to disband the reserve team, after entering into a ground sharing agreement with Warlingham, a move that it hopes will help boost revenue. After this 1st team manager Stuart Massey took the microphone to present the 1st team awards. The Young Player of the Year award went to Dan Aldous who has blossomed at the Leafe this season and cemented himself in the side with some very consistent performances. The Manager's Player of the Year went to dependable defender Rhys Coleman, who had actually lined up against us pre-season as a Crystal Palace trialist. Palace's loss was our gain! The Players' Player of the Year went to the ever popular Danny Oakins. Danny spent the season playing in either central defence, or up front where he formed a good understanding with top scorer Darren Watson. Danny went on to receive the Supporters' Player of the Year award to complete a good night. Well done to all and here's to next season.
