2009 was a very succesul first half of the season for the Old Boys. Both 1st and reserves remain unbeaten in both league and cups.
The rain and snow caused some of our games to be cancelled and now we are playing catch-up with the top sides who have played more games than us in both divisions!
Earlier this season, the first team fought out a scrappy draw (3-3) at table-topping Weston, played on a pitch that much resembled a field used by herds of cows!
Not pretty to watch but we still managed to nick a draw. We also progressed in the County cup, beating Merstham Newton 2-1 in a close fought encounter at White Knobs. Taking a 2-0 lead in to the second half through some neat play from Jack Cronk, Ross Edwards and Ryan Mumery, Merstham pulled a goal back from a deflected freekick which the keeper never stood a chance against. Had Ben Cocker not missed a 'sitter' after some excellent work the game would have been safe a lot sooner. The Old boys are now fourth in the league but have played four games fewer and are only five points behind!
The reserves are still flying high and are second in the league by the fact they have played fewer games; they are three games in hand and only four points from the top! We brushed aside RH 123 5-0 away from home, with a fine all round team performance. We have played seven and won seven scoring a credible 34 goals and conceeding a miserly three. With good goalkeeping, a solid defence and nearly five goals a game from the midfield and strikers, spectators are always in for some 'lively' games. Well done to all the players for such fine performances. Long may it continue.
We wish all players, fans and everyone in Caterham a very Happy New Year and look forward to 2010 with much anticipation.
