Caterham have continued to have a good summer with their 1st XI standing in third place in the Fullers County League, Division 2 at the start of August. They took a step closer to their goal of promotion by beating table toppers Roehampton CC in a thrilling one wicket victory in the last week of July. Steve Grace handed over the captaincy to young vicecaptain Charlie Sheen halfway through the season. Steve said: "I have done enough years in the First Eleven and now is the time for youth to take over". Sheen promptly won his first game in control so hopefully the Club can reach glory by the end of the season. The batting has been dominated by 20 year old Mike Randall who has scored two centuries and averages over fifty. Campbell Smith has opened the innings with distinction, compiling 319 runs. The bowling has been led by a range of slow bowlers in a summer that has seen the wickets crumble and spin appreciably. Both Chris Bullen and Charlie Sheen have taken 16 wickets and continue to pressurise opposition batsmen, supported by senior seamer Paul Eversfield with 13 wickets and junior paceman Scott Weddell with 11. The second and third elevens continue to progress well in their respective competitions. The junior sides are flourishing for boys and girls and they were particularly pleased to receive a coaching session from England and Surrey opening batsman Mark Butcher. Caterham CC run junior and senior cricket for girls, boys, women and men and are always keen to have new members as well as volunteers for umpiring, scoring, junior coaching and a range of administrative roles.
