The season is now well underway and the start has been a mixed one so far. The season opener saw an entertaining 1-1 draw with local rivals Merstham who may count themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points after a string of fine saves by Leafe stopper, O'Hara, kept them at bay. Unfortunately, next game up we succumbed to a heavy defeat at Godalming and it was obvious that some work needed to be done before Saturday's FA Cup game at Chipstead. For the fans the cup game ended up being an epic encounter, although the managers of both sides were probably despairing at the quality of defending from their teams. Chipstead took an early lead and held onto it until 25 minutes in, when Leafe scored two quick goals to turn things around. Shortly before half time Chipstead scored to take the teams in level at the break. Shortly after the re-start however Leafe scored a third and looked in control of the game. As Chipstead pushed forward Leafe created two clear-cut chances to put the tie beyond reach but missed them both. They were made to pay as Chipstead scored two quick goals to take a 4-3 lead, which they held, sending Leafe out at the first hurdle for the second year running. Leafe returned to league action two days later and put the cup defeat behind them by beating Corinthian-Casuals 4-2. This was followed up by a creditable 1-1 draw away to Leatherhead and a 1-0 home win against Faversham. With confidence high the team travelled to Ramsgate who had had a slow start, but ended up being thumped 5-0 in a bad tempered encounter which saw Coleman sent off. October sees home games against Chatham (26th) and Whitstable (30th). See you there. |
