This last month has seen a welcome upsurge in form at Whyteleafe with the team winning half of the eight matches played. It started with a 2-1 home defeat to local rivals Chipstead, but after that Whyteleafe went on a run of three wins in four games starting with a 3-1 win away to Banstead in the Surrey Cup. Whilst the win was a valuable one in terms of boosting morale it could also prove to be valuable financially with a home tie against fallen Conference giants Woking in the next round, a team that Whyteleafe knocked out at the semi-final stage a couple of seasons ago. Buoyed by this victory the team travelled to Walton and Hersham in the league and registered another fine 3-1 win thanks to two goals from the irrepressible O'Flaherty who also set up the third. Chatham were the visitors in the next match and ended up somewhat controversial 1-0 winners after Leafe were denied a point in the last minute when O’Flaherty was adjudged offside after scoring. The decision seemed obvious only to the linesman, and left the crowd bewildered and disappointed. There was no disappointment in the next game as Leafe ran out comfortable 3-2 winners over Whitstable who scored two late goals to give the scoreline some respectability. The side were pulled back to earth with a bump in the next game though when they were soundly beaten 4-0 at Worthing. However they returned to their winning ways next match when they beat Chipstead away 2-1 (revenge for the home defeat!), before losing 1-0 at home to Sittingbourne. December sees home games against Fleet on the 18th and Dulwich Hamlet on the 27th (a perfect excuse to get some fresh air after the Christmas festivities). Both games are 3pm kick offs. |
